KATRINA FRELICH, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Throughout her life, Katrina has extensively trained as a ballet dancer, starting as a young student under her mother’s instruction at Brighton School of Ballet through high school, spending summers studying at the schools of various professional ballet companies including Milwaukee Ballet, Boston Ballet, Cleveland/San Jose Ballet, Grand Rapids Summer Intensives, as well as attending a teacher workshop in Vail, CO, during the year that she was recovering from reconstructive knee surgery at 16.   Her senior year culminated with the wonderful opportunity to dance Odette in Swan Lake (ACT II), being partnered by guest artist, Patrick Kasper of the Milwaukee Ballet.  She entered Western Michigan University’s dance dept. with a scholarship to continue to pursue her love of dance further. While at WMU, she was trained further in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Choreography, Ballet History, Music Theory, Dance Improv and more, while performing in department concerts showcasing ballet classics and original contemporary pieces. Every December, she would return to the school to peform in the Nutcracker, with particular highlight in 1997, dancing the ‘Sugar Plum Fairy Pas de Deux’ with Olivier Wecxsteen, then principal dancer at Boston Ballet. In 1999, she graduated WMU with a Bachelors of Business Administration and Dance Minor. Soon after, she moved to San Jose, California for 5 years where she worked in Human Resources and continued to  teach, choreograph and dance.  When she moved back to MI in 2004 , she once again enjoyed being back at her home school, dancing and teaching, while developing further her love for dance ministry. With over 22 years of ballet teaching experience and as a fully certified STOTT Pilates Instructor since 2010, she brings a depth of knowledge for correct body placement and technique, as well as passion for helping students find joy in their movement.
